Ofcom’s Approval of STV North News Cuts is Bad News for the North-east
The decision by Ofcom to allow STV to move ahead with plans to cut the level of local news provided to viewers in the former Grampian Television area, now STV North, is disappointing to say the very least.

Before becoming an MP, I was a mental health social worker, working at all levels before retiring in 2013 as regional director. For much of the next decade, I worked as a coach driver and tourist guide across the region.
My interest in politics goes back to my student days, but later I was active as a campaigner for a number of politicians in Ireland.
I then joined the SNP in 2018, shortly after moving to Fraserburgh, and went on to campaign in local and national elections. This included the 2022 election to Aberdeenshire Council for the Fraserburgh and District Ward.

About Seamus
I was born in Ballymoney in the 1950s in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and brought up in Dunloy, a good grounding for living now in the Broch as we call Fraserburgh. I feel a great affinity with the people and communities who live here and I appreciate the welcome I received from them when I first arrived. The Northern Irish have a lot in common with folk from this corner of Scotland – forthright, a wee bit brusque, hard-working, industrious, and imaginative. It’s the people that make it here and I am glad to be one of them now.
It’s the people too that are at the heart of everything I do as their MP – I want to put them first, to stand up for them and act as a voice for their concerns at Westminster, no matter party affiliation or none. And I’m well aware of what they have entrusted to me to do as their elected representative.

Working hard for the people, every day.
From tackling local issues on the ground to shaping national policy, I believe in being a visible and approachable MP. That means listening to constituents, holding regular surgeries, and working alongside community groups, charities, and businesses to deliver real results. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer future for everyone in our constituency.
